Invasive Asian Swamp Eels Threaten Florida Everglades Ecosystem
Deep in the Florida Everglades, a new invasive species is quietly taking over, threatening native wildlife and altering wetland production. The Asian swamp eel, a serpent-like fish native to India, Burma, and China, has expanded its range into the freshwater systems of the Everglades, feeding on crayfish and smaller forage fish. Experts warn that this invasion could pose a similar threat to native food webs and restoration efforts as the Burmese python.
