Chesapeake Bay Watermen Remove Derelict Crab Traps
A coordinated effort is underway in the Chesapeake Bay to remove lost and derelict blue crab traps. Twenty vessels and 40 watermen are working together to clean up the bay and protect marine life. The project is a partnership between local organizations and aims to strengthen environmental stewardship while creating jobs for local watermen. The removal of derelict traps will help to reduce unintended catch, protect habitat, and improve the productivity of local fishing grounds.
