Renovation of North Carolina Trout Hatchery
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is renovating a trout hatchery in the Pisgah National Forest. The facility, which produces about 60% of the state's stocked trout, was damaged by Tropical Storm Fred in 2021 and is in need of modernization. The renovation is expected to take two years and cost nearly $40 million. The project will reduce the downstream impacts of hatchery discharges on the Davidson River and ensure the state's trout fishing industry is sustainable.
