Top Virginia Waters for Trophy Smallmouth Bass Fishing
The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has released a list of the top waterbodies for catching trophy smallmouth bass, with the New River taking the top spot. The river produced 130 citation smallmouth bass catches in 2025, with good numbers of quality fish remaining for anglers to target. Recent above-average spawning classes bode well for anglers as these fish grow to adult size.
