Skamania Hatchery Reopening Push
A Congresswoman and a county are urging a state fish and wildlife agency to reopen a hatchery that produced winter steelhead and trout for local fisheries, after it was closed due to funding issues. The hatchery's closure led to the loss of 161,000 winter and summer steelhead and cutthroat trout, and its reopening would allow it to continue serving the communities that depend on its output. The agency is being urged to use a recent federal funding boost to reopen the hatchery, which is located on the Washougal River.
