New Shark Deterrent Device Shows Promise for Commercial Fishermen
A researcher at Florida Atlantic University has developed a hook-based shark deterrent device that shows promise in reducing shark bycatch in commercial fisheries. The device uses zinc and graphite to generate a small electric field that repels sharks from baited hooks, with early testing showing a reduction in shark catch rates of up to 69 percent.
