Pacific Halibut Quota Reaches Record Low
The Pacific halibut quota has hit a record low, with a total harvest of just 29.33 million pounds allocated for this year. This reduction in quota will have a significant impact on commercial, sport, subsistence, and personal use fishermen, who will have to compete for a shrinking catch. The International Pacific Halibut Commission has determined this quota based on the fishery's 102-year-old history, and it's the lowest yield ever recorded.
